The fact is, the cats have stepped into Ark Survival Ascended and they are here to stay, survivors. As you may know, these cats are not just wild creatures, they have been declared an addition to the game officially. 

No doubt at least some of the players expected something like that to happen. Some were happy when it came to pass, others were thrilled when they saw the small felines matching their colors in the game. While we’ve had dogs such as the Hyaenodon and the direwolf, we’ve never had cats in the ARK. Now there’s a situation in the ARK where dog and cat can actually mean something, each being a kind of battle companion. The Hyaenodon doesn’t have to do all the work now. Where to Find Cats in Ark Survival Ascended

No, cats are not everywhere on the entire ARK. The special maps are limited to those in a few places where they can only be found.

The Island

• They are mostly distributed in the east and some of them in the southeast.
• Cats are very odd, for only 7 of approximately 20,000 creatures are born at the same time.
• Some rare species can be located in the western regions.

Astraeos

• The biggest number of cats are usually found in Phokintos.
• A few can also be seen in Korinthos.
• Terrain here is a little weird, which makes it a bit difficult to keep a close watch on them, so still, be careful not to miss them. 

Spotting a Cat: Behavior and Indicators

Cats in ARK are small and very few. The grass standing on the game field can be used to hide them easily. But, one must keep in mind that it will be possible to spot them somehow.

Monitor Their Icon

Each cat has a colored icon floating above it, telling you everything you need to know about their mood:

• Green Icon: Friendly. These can be tamed in a passive way.
• Yellow Icon: Aggressive. The yellow icons are also willing to fight you at first sight, though they can be tamed if the conditions a right.
• Red Icon: Hostile. They will attack you like a yellow one.

How to Tame Cats in ARK

Green Icon Cats (Passive Taming)

Passive taming is not the only way to tame cats but it is the simplest and the most popular way if you find the right conditions.

1. Slow down and keep the prepared food in the last slot of the hotbar, the cat will not be able to see you if you get your way back to where you are coming from.
2. These are allowed:
   • Wyvern Milk (Best)
   • Raw Mutton
   • Raw Prime Meat
3. Feed the cat when it displays the prompt.
4. Do the same process until the taming is completed.

Yellow/Red Icon Cats (Aggressive Taming)

I never knew that these cats could be so aggressive. Instead, they do not be afraid to move away if they are coming too close.

• If you recall in the past, the cat will pounce back at you and tear your face skin off.
• It is the opposite unless it is cured within a very short period of time, in that it will harm you steadily.

How to Get Them Off Your Face

• Find potable source of water and let the cat jump from you as soon as you touch this water.
• The cat will disconnect from the face as soon as you touch the water.
• Start taming the cat while it is still swimming.

The way to do this is to set up a taming trap by the water, get them into the water, and then do the taming.

Abilities of the Cat (Post-Tame)

As soon as you have taken a cat successfully, it will instantly become a shoulder pet, but it will offer you more than just love and cute animation.

Pest Control Feature

1. Just like the Sinomacrops, your cat on the shoulder will take care of the small threats.
2. Disables:
   • Ichthyornis (pesky bird thieves)
   • Pegomastax (little kleptomaniacs)
   • Microraptors (annoying stunners)

• Whirling the action wheel through petting causes the pet to perform animations.
  • Some cats at this point will even spit at you.
  • Some others, in a more relaxed state, will display idle behaviors.
• Hairballs are a natural way out for cats. Even on a bad day, the cat might cough them up randomly.
  • However, this can be dried up to get a small amount of fur.
• Litter Box Moment: Yes, your cat can also leave a litter box and do the deed. Another distinctive feature for the collection!

Why You Should Tame a Cat in ARK

What’s more, adorable personalities, here are convincing arguments that might make you want to tame your own cougar:

• Excellent Early-Game Companion: A saddle is not necessary, they are easy to carry and great against small threats.
• Resource Source: Hairballs = fur, which can be useful early on.
• Entertaining Animations: They add personality to your base.
• Rarity: Owning a cat puts you in an elite club, especially with their limited spawn locations.
